Not much had changed by the 70s. I remember reading stuff about being the 'office wife' and I once had to go and get my boss a birthday present for his daughter!
Thank god for the computer. It eliminated the main role of the secretary - typing letters for the (usually male) boss.
I remember in the early 80's one of my bosses was taking a course in "Executive Keyboarding". Yes, just plain typing was beneath him but he had to learn to type his own letters. So I guess they set up a special class for the guys!
Just like Erika said, I'll never be a good secretary because there is definitely too much life to be lived and I wouldn't be spending it in the office :) I would love to have the cute outfit that Miss Jenkins is wearing though!

ReplyDeleteThat 3rd picture is why I will never make it as a secretary! Oh...that and the fact that I can't sit as rigid as Ms. Perkins.
ReplyDeletehahhaah reminds me of MAD MEN.... I would rather DIE then be a secretary!
ReplyDeleteAmazing how far those three little words of appreciation will go!
